NRT can be used to assist smoking reduction in preparation for a quit attempt.

Smokers who use nicotine gum or inhalator to reduce their cigarette intake reduce more and increase their future chances of successful quitting. There is no evidence to suggest that using NRT at the same time as smoking poses an additional safety risk.
