Quitting smoking has substantial and immediate benefits for smokers of all ages.

Former smokers experience better health and live longer than continuing smokers, no matter at what age they stop smoking. The excess risk of death from smoking begins to decrease shortly after cessation and continues to decrease for at least 10-15 years.
